My story through

data science

Hello there! This is mabatalla from Spain.

I am a data scientist with a background in construction engineering and extensive experience as quality assurance and environmental monitoring manager so I am used to handling large amounts of data. I have also worked as a freelancer and entrepreneur managing teams and projects, in which I’ve tried to apply state-of-the-art technologies and agile methodologies to achieve the best performance and the most people development.

About fifteen years ago I was diagnosed with diabetes and in the last few years I started a glucose level sensor + insulin pump treatment. At that moment I was wondering if it would be possible to send the sensor data to the pump and make it work automatically and then I found Nightscout / AndroidAPS project that led me to start coding.

An immersive C coding program discovered a whole new exciting world for me. The decision was made.

I quit my job, signed up for a bootcamp, and went back to drinking as much coffee as I did in my college years.

Eat – sleep specialty coffee – code -repeat

Now the challenge is to merge my background with my new passion. I would love to apply all my experience and know-how to improve people’s lives, for example helping to develop artificial pancreas systems, computer vision, smart cities or more environmentally-friendly processes.

This is where my story through data science starts.

“Take your towel”, sit back and enjoy my journey. I’ll be your guide.

ABOUT THE FUTURE

Did you really read all the information above?
Thank you for your interest or just for your scroll, I’m glad you are here.

As I mentioned before, I decided to quit my job and go for a fresh start. After more than five years in the engineering sector I had a nice position in a young and “hungry” enterprise, not too far from home and with equalized benefits and responsibilities. I knew this decision meant a little step backwards but I join this sector with great hope in my heart. And basically, this is me.

If you decide that there is an opportunity for me in your team you will get a passionate and committed colleague. I believe in equality within a team and will assess each situation and provide my feedback as required. I firmly believe that a professional relationship has to be assertive and honest and honestly I like to work hard but also play hard. I try to maintain a good balance.

I am disciplined as well as flexible, and I like to play as part of a team. If you want to win then make a team, teams win. I consider that the greatest things I have achieved have much to do with these phrases. Sometimes in the role of a manager, sometimes in the role of a team member, I feel comfortable in any position.

Being pragmatic I would love to work as a data scientist in a medium-size company where I can participate in complex projects but I can be part of an engaged team working together almost as a family. I dream of selling my car and living a slow life with my family and my pets with a fully remote position but I know I have a lot to learn and a hybrid model will be fantastic at this very moment.

I’d love to develop my career as a data scientist working inside an international team or with international clients. I don’t have a specific industry where I’d like to work for but a good description of my day to day could be:

I am a data scientist. My position is in between the business and the operations staff. To solve business problems, I use large amounts of data that I transform to feed different machine learning models. I analyze the results of each model and try to optimize its hyperparameters to maximize their performance. The results of my work serve the data analysts to transmit their findings and are the basis of the work of the machine learning engineers who put the models into real and large-scale production.

Did you find this interesting? Do you feel like we should meet? Or do you know someone who might be looking for someone like me? Please get in contact via any of the channels below. I am looking forward to catching up with you!

In any case thank you for your time.
